Is Your Home Really Safe?
Lessons from the Dasmariñas Village Burglary Spree
Even one of Metro Manila’s most exclusive villages is not immune. Here’s what you need to know — and do — to protect your home.

Dasmariñas Village in Makati City is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive and well-guarded residential enclaves in the Philippines. With round-the-clock security personnel and CCTV cameras stationed throughout the village, many of its residents have long felt a sense of security that most Filipinos can only dream of. But recent events have shattered that sense of safety, and the lessons are important for every homeowner across the country.
What Happened in Dasmariñas Village?
In the early hours of February 19, 2026, the Makati home of Ton and Karen Concepcion was broken into. Ton Concepcion is the president and CEO of Mondo Cucina Inc., the exclusive Philippine distributor of the premium Italian appliance brand SMEG. Karen Concepcion reported waking up to find their master bedroom completely ransacked. According to a police report, she had heard unusual sounds in the night, first around 1 a.m., then again at 3 a.m. but dismissed them as insignificant. By 6:35 in the morning, the damage was already done: jewelry boxes and a safety vault were missing.
Investigators found footprints and latent fingerprints throughout the residence. More telling was the discovery of scaffolding beside the house, which police believe the intruder may have used to climb up and enter through a bathroom window on the upper floor, a classic akyat-bahay (break-and-enter) method.
Just a few months later, on June 4, 2026, the home of Bianca Zobel, the presidential social secretary and her live-in partner Daniel Tuason was also burglarized in Dasmariñas Village. A suspect was later arrested in connection with that heist, which involved the theft of over ₱8.24 million worth of luxury items, including two Patek Philippe watches. Authorities have since been investigating what appears to be a pattern of akyat-bahay crimes within the village.
Why CCTV and Guards Are No Longer Enough
The Dasmariñas Village incidents highlight a hard truth that security professionals have been warning about for years: passive security measures alone cannot stop a determined burglar.
CCTV cameras are excellent tools for recording what happened, they help identify suspects after the fact. But they do not stop a break-in in progress. A camera cannot shout, lock a door, or trigger a response in real time unless it is connected to an active monitoring and alarm system.
Likewise, private village security guards cover wide perimeters and cannot be everywhere at once. In the Concepcion case, the security provider CATS Security (composed of affiliate agencies including Leopard, Jaguar, Lion, and El Tigre) was already operating in the village yet the intrusion went undetected for hours. Police are even investigating the civil liability of one security agency for allegedly failing to take precautions that could have prevented the robbery.
“If it can happen in Dasmariñas Village, it can happen anywhere. The question is not whether you have security, it is whether your security is active, layered, and connected.”
The 3-Layer Security System Every Home Needs
Modern home security works best when it operates in layers: you control who enters, you detect any unauthorized movement, and you make your perimeter physically difficult and painful to breach. Here are the three most recommended security systems for Philippine homes and businesses:
Replace your traditional deadbolt with a smart door access system that uses multiple verification methods, a face scan, a thumbprint, and/or a contactless Mifare card. The top recommended unit is the Granding FacePro1-TD, which combines facial recognition, fingerprint reading, and card access in one sleek device. It connects to a Falco Door Access Controller, is backed up by an internal battery so it keeps working even during a power outage, features a magnetic door lock, and triggers a built-in intrusion siren if tampered with. In plain terms: even if a burglar knows your house, they cannot get through your front door without your face or your fingerprint.

A Paradox Multi-Zone Intrusion Alarm System places motion sensors on windows, doors, and key areas inside your home. If anything moves where it shouldn’t, the system triggers an outdoor siren and strobe lights and immediately sends an alert via 4G or WiFi to you, your security team, or local authorities. Available sensors include PIR (passive infrared) motion detectors, wireless window magnets, vibration sensors, and compact Mini PIR units suited for smaller homes or apartments. This is a system that actively responds, not just records.
Browse Paradox Intrusion Alarm Systems →For homes with an exposed outer perimeter — the very vulnerability exploited in Dasmariñas Village through the use of scaffolding along a boundary wall, an electric fence is the most effective deterrent available. The world’s number one recommended brand is Nemtek, whose energizers deliver a safe but sharp shock that stops intruders at the fence line before they ever reach your home. Nemtek energizers can also be fitted with a communications module that sends SMS, 4G, or WiFi alerts the moment the fence is touched or cut. The right energizer size depends on your property’s perimeter length. 3S Security Solutions offers a free Electric Fence Calculator to help you determine exactly what you need.

Use this quick checklist to assess where your home security currently stands:
- All entry points (doors and windows) have smart locks or access control not just keys
- Motion sensors are installed on ground-floor windows, doors, and vulnerable upper-floor entry points
- An alarm system is connected to an outdoor siren and strobe light visible from the street
- Your alarm system can send real-time alerts to your phone or a monitoring center via 4G or WiFi
- Your perimeter walls or fence are fitted with an electric fence energizer
- All scaffolding, ladders, or climbing surfaces near your home are secured or removed when not in use
- Your security system has a backup battery and continues operating during a power failure
